Hey Katie! Sorry for such a late response. The only advice I can think of is to bring snacks and treats that will remind you of home. They have snickers bars and a few other brands here, but most chinese candy and food is different than what were used to in the states. Bring comfort foods and flavors that will remind you of home. It will help you ease into getting acclimated to the food!
I've been here around 18 months. Jose has just joined our school. So you can ask him about his first impressions! Ha.
Advice/stuff to bring??? Hmm, depends on how attached you are to particular brands. You can get pretty much anything here but not always the brand you want. Clothes are really cheap so if you're in need of space throw out a few Tshirts/trousers. That is if you're petite/Chinese in size. Also it won't get cold here for a long time.
Shenzhen is huge and has lots of western shops/supermarkets (e.g. Walmart). The things I wish I had brought now are photos or other things to cheer me up when I'm missing home.
I let you know if I think of anything more specific,
Hi Katie, welcome to the EF community! I actually just arrived to Shenzhen a little over a week ago and am just getting integrated into the EF culture and also the culture of the city. Shenzhen is a really awesome place with a really interesting history and there is a lot to do within the city. I'm sure you're going to really enjoy it!
