My name is Alexis, I'm 21 years old, freshly graduated from college as of 3 months ago, and I'm headed to Shanghai to teach in August 2017.
I just graduated with my Bachelor's in Human Services with plans to start graduate school to get my Master's in Mental Health Counseling. Before I even started, I was burnt out from already working in the field. I came to the miserable realization that I had just spent 3 and 1/2 years working towards something I didn't even want to do. But at age 21 with a Bachelor's degree, no spouse or family, and not even a full time career holding back, the world was my oyster, as people say (I just learned that idiom, so I love using it).
I thought about something I've always dreamt about doing, since I was around 15 years old, and that was to go abroad and teach English. I thought, "I don't want to 60 years old, sitting at home and regretting what I could have done but never did." So I did it! I applied to EF and here I am now, trying to cram as much Mandarin as humanly possible into my brain and working through the tedious visa process so I can get the show on the road and begin teaching in Shanghai come August.
Anyone else already in Shanghai or going around that time? I'd love to get to know you!
