EF Education First Teachers

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this site, still trying to get the hang of it.

I am currently set to go teach children and teens in Beijing within the next month or so. I am very excited and nervous at the same time.

As far as the process  goes, I am just waiting for my documents to be returned to me from China so I can get my visa.

A little about me:

I am an American who lives 20 minutes east of Erie Pennsylvania. The name of the town is North East. It is both the name and coordinate's of the town. A little known fact about North East is we are the third largest grape growing region in the world, seconded to California and  first France. North East is also home to Welch's, which happens to be THE best grape juice and jelly in the world!

North East is set on the beautiful shores of Lake Erie where you can see Canada on clear days and night's since it is only 30 minutes away via across the lake.

I recently graduated from  Mercyhurst University with a degree in Sociology and a double minor in Communications and Marketing. I also have my associates in Liberal Arts.

I am excited to meet other teachers that are also going to Beijing so we can be clueless together! HAHAHAHA!

Is anyone teaching in Beijing within the next month or so and would like to connect?

Is anyone already living in Beijing and teaching and could give me some tips and advice?

I'm concerned with the housing, and the transportation, also with food, water and air pollution.

Any tips and advice will be most helpful and appreciated! Thanks :)

Hi Darcie! Pleased to meet you, I'm Steph :) and it's great to know that another Beijing teacher will also be going! I'm scheduled to arrive in Beijing in 3 weeks!!! (ahhhhhhhh!!! I know). Like you said, we can all be clueless together lol. I'm from sunny side Los Angeles (sorry, West Coast!) :) some tips is to bring a breathing mask. Trust me with all this pollution you'll need one. Another tip that I was told is to bring at least 2k-4K cash. Tip 3, bring ALL your documents. We will need to turn them in once we get there. Tip 4, practice that Mandarin! Tips 5. Be very careful with the food. It's China. Tip 6, avoid rush hour in public transportation which is 7am-9am and 5pm-7pm. I've done my research thoroughly :) I'm also nervous and excited and hope to meet you once we are all over there!
