United Nations Day!

By Andrew Scott Gibson, EF Student Ambassador

Last week I had the opportunity to go volunteer at one of EFs after school programs for kids. This was an amazing experience for me because I am used to volunteering at elementary schools back in America, but this was completely different. The topic for the day was “United Nations”. The goal was to get these young students familiar with counties outside of china. To my surprise these kids needed no help in this area. When we were quizzing them on which flags belong to which countries they knew the answers for 90% of them. I have never met a first grader that could recognize the Turkish flag, know where it falls on the globe and be able to pronounce it in both English and Chinese. Just seeing on their faces how excited they were to learn made me that more passionate about teaching. I will definitely going back the next chance I get.
