Friends in China

Making new friends

By Elena Yip, EF Student Ambassador…
I’m really fortunate that being in a program means practically built-in friends. There are so many people in the program that you’re bound to find someone you can be friends with and it’s a fantastic feeling. It’s going to be so strange when I go back to the States and no longer see these people almost every day. Meeting friends is always such a tricky experience but I find that it’s actually easier making friends abroad because people are more open to new experiences. EF Life Club is one instance where I think it’s a great place to meet new people, bridging the gap between locals and expats. Speaking of expats, there are plenty of Shanghai focused expat meet-ups! Shanghai also has heaps of events where you can find people with similar interests, such as concerts or art shows.

Today was my first time at an EF Life Club event; we decorated pumpkins for in the spirit of Halloween.  But first I had to get there.  This EF even was located near the Cloud Nine shopping mall, between a Family Mart and a Bank of China, on the fourth floor of the Beethoven building.  Unfortunately,…

A Day in a Life Club: Mission Implausible

mission implausible

By Elena Yip, EF Student Ambassador

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Mission Implausible event for EF’s adult section. Right when I got into the building, they handed us t-shirts with “Mission Implausible” on the front and sponsored by Sony on the back. That’s my first sign that this was serious business. T-shirts!! Also, little…

China Travel Tips: What I learned from the National Day holiday

By Katheen Yam, EF Student Ambassador

October 1st, China’s National Day, is the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. It’s similar to America’s Independence Day and Canada’s Canada Day. Typically, this means that most people get a week off school and work (restaurant workers and some other industries get different days off). Most people in China use it to travel or spend time with family. I…
