Hi everyone! Just wondering if anybody in Shanghai or arriving soon can help. My doctor advised me that I should get a number of vaccinations before travelling to China. I got a couple through the NHS however theres a number of other ones that I have to pay for. Is it entirely necessary? Atm it just seems like another expense if I could just get them when I arrive in China. Did anyone else get vaccinated before arriving?
As my arrival date (21st November) draws nearer I'm beginning to think of 101 questions none of which are probably that important in the great scheme of things. This must be normal. I can't be alone here. Right?
The latest dilemma I'm facing is what to do with my Netflix and Spotify subscriptions - sadly, I am STUCK with my phone contract. Will I still be able to use my usual streaming services out in China or is it worth cancelling them before I leave? I use both…Continue
Hello All! I am arriving in Guangzhou on September 12, 2018 - Is anyone else beginning their adventure on the same day? Please let me know, I need several new best friends :D Also, are there any veteran Guangzhou EF folks that would like to share what they know about acquiring housing in Guangzhou?
It's safe to say that at times I thought this would never feel real, that my paperwork would never be accepted and that choosing a year in a country hundreds of miles away would be a step too far, yet here I am on the brink of an adventure of a lifetime. It's finally hit me that as October 12th draws near this is all really happening, I've never been more excited! I recently graduated from York University, UK. It was probably one of the most incredible experiences I will ever go through, and…Continue

Hi all :)
Wo jiao Pauline! (learned that from Chinesetown which is such an awesome resource btw)
I am from San Francisco Area of California, but just graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in communication and minor in creative writing. I adore the human condition of bridging worlds, and have a soft spot for how we decorate our lives with the words that build them.
But now to the most important part:
I'll be arriving in Chongqing…Continue

A somewhat unusual question to pose to you guys. Maybe somebody already out in China will be able to offer a bit of advice or shed some light...
I head out to Shenzhen in November. My boyfriend is also headed to Shenzhen but won't arrive until January. Obviously our plan is to live together but I've read that the rules and regulations are pretty strict when it comes to visas and housing leases/contracts etc.
As we will both be in China on visas can anybody see…Continue
So.... this is my first time to blog.... ever. Go figure, I get a bachelor's in IT and I avoid using social media and IT in general. I guess having a huge life event occur really gets you to want to somehow journal it. Well my story all began with actually just going through my email on a normal day in August when I find an email from EF. I opened it, already thinking oh gosh what trip do they want to sell me on this time, and found instead someone congratulating me on recently graduating…Continue
I'm Alyson and hopefully I'll be joining the EF Kids and Teens team in Beijing. All my paperwork is submitted and I'm just waiting on my work permit being issued. If all goes well, I should be starting in September.
I spent 5 months in China recently on a teaching internship to see if I enjoyed it. It was an amazing experience, I can't wait…Continue

What advice does everybody have for learning Mandarin?
I know we have online classes at our disposal but due to time differences the classes are in the middle of the night. My current work schedule does not allow for me to attend regular classes or have a set time with a tutor each week so it looks like I'm doing this on my own.
I am familiar with apps like Duolingo which definitely do help with building your vocabulary but aren't so helpful when it comes to…Continue
I arrive in Beijing on 22 August, and will be based in Tianjin.
Those of us that teach in other cities, will have the Saturday and Sunday free, since those that work in Beijing do apartment hunting on the weekend.
I'd like to use the 'free time' to explore some of the sights in Beijing. If anyone else is available, please let me know - perhaps we can see the sights together.
Have a great weekend.
VPN is a foreign concept to me, but I've done some research amongst friends that have had to use it, and found that ExpressVPN works the best.
I've just activated mine now, the offer I chose gave me 3 months free access and then $99 for a further 12 months. In terms of value, this is great too - an investment of only $7 per month for 15 months. ($99 is charged upon signing up).
If you'd like to explore this offer, click on the link…Continue

Friends, Teachers, EF, Lend me your ears!
It is a pleasure to meet you all! My name is Roberto, and I'm moving to Beijing, as is apparent in the title. I can't wait to meet you all, those in Beijing, and those outside of it! I'm an avid history lover, a lover of classical music, Jazz, and Rock, and a giant bookworm. China seems like such a great opportunity to meet new people, do something that I love, and of course, eat all that good food!
Can't wait to see you all!
My name is Vele Nemaheni and I’m from South Africa , I’m so excited to be joining the EF family in Shanghai. I’m expected to arrive in August and I’m so ready to be there already .

My name is Mariah Seale, and I am scheduled to arrive in Shanghai around June 20th from Tampa, Florida. I am excited to join the EF teaching team and experience life in China. Looking to connect with others going to Shanghai in June or already living there. I am also wondering if anyone is looking for a house/roommate, as I will be for the upcoming school year. Moving across the world without knowing anyone or even having an idea of where I will live and who I will…Continue
I'm currently waiting for documents from EF to be able to apply for a Z Visa. Must admit this has been a 2-month process with more things to do. I was hoping to be able to connect with some current or future teachers at the adult learning center in Xian. Please let me know and I'd be glad to provide my email address.

Hi Everyone! I am Shaun and I am from South Africa. I was born in Jakarta, Indonesia and was raised in South Africa since I was a year old. I have been in the corporate world working for Huawei Africa for a number of years and have decided to leave the corporate life to get a better balance of life and get into a teaching role in China where I can be closer to my girlfriend of 3 years. I do speak English, Afrikaans, Mandarin, Cantonese and a dialect called Hakka which originates from…Continue
