Trials and tribulations - no joke!  Has anyone ever tried to get a work visa in any other country?  I'm curious as to whether the process is similar in other countries or whether China's process is particularly lengthy.

I got myself a pair of full black sneakers, but decent looking shoes just for work can be bought for cheap in GZ. I suppose we could also put our work shoes under our desks or in our locker and change into them at work.

Big plus of flip flops is it would be easier to clean/dry your feet after, and they dry fast and stash away unobtrusively.

There are rainy seasons for sure! It is also quite humid. But the rainy season doesn't last for long. Flip flops are okay, but keep in mind, if you're riding the metro, people might step on your toes. As for work, black or brown close-toed shoes are what we are supposed to wear. I would not wear formal black shoes. I wear my Sperries often and some casual black shoes. I have also seen people wear black sneakers.

What about at work? Do we need to wear formal black shoes?

Definitely flip flops or those slip on boat shoes. It should be quite warm most of the year, so Wellies could get quite stinky.

Hi guys so I heard it rains a lot there. Random question, shall I bring wellies or flip flops? What do people wear in Guangzhou because of the weather?

Your recruiter is correct. I just didn't know how soon they will tell you. If memory serves me right, it will be once you have your visa and have booked your flights. Usually about 4 weeks out or so.
